The Igbos make up around 18 percent of Nigeria’s population. Their traditional homeland straddles the Niger River in the southeast and is one of the most densely populated areas of the African continent. Igbo are predominantly Christians. Traditionally, Igbo were subsistence farmers of yams, taro, and cassava.

Their language is also called Igbo. The primary Igbo states in Nigeria are Anambra, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu States. The Igbos also are more than 25% of the population in some Nigerian States like Delta State and Rivers State.

Below are how you can sell like an Igbo Man.

Having been to the popular Lagos Balogun, Oshodi, Ipaja, and Agege market several times, I realized that 90% of the Igbo Man`s marketing strategies can also be Applied Online.

Let`s take a look at some of them below.

They Don`t Joke with Visibility.

The only time you will see an Igbo  Man relaxing inside his shop is when attending to customers.

They can go any mile to get customers to their shop.

You will see them 10 miles away from their stalls prospecting for potential customers.

They normally see this slang whenever they see a customer ” Chai nne eh, baby girl, my color, this trouser go fit you die?

SELLING ONLINE

Stop relaxing and waiting for customers to find you.

invest in sponsored ads, influence ads, or do it the organic way by:

  • Looking for and engaging on your potential customer`s posts.
  • Dropping meaningful comments on big accounts that have your target audiences e.t.c

People have to know, like, and trust you before buying from you.

They Know and Understand their Target Audience.

No Igbo Man will market or sell a Jeans trouser to an Igbo Man.

SELLING ONLINE.

Stop marketing to everyone. Go to know and understand your target audience.

  • What is their age bracket?
  • What gender? Male or Female or both?
  • Where can you find them?

They would rather Cross-sell than Lose a Potential Loyal  Customer.

When  you price down their goods they will always say ”What again they you want to buy?”

This is because they`d rather make you a customer by covering up their loss from the next thing you are buying than lose a potential loyal Customer as a result of pricing.

SELLING ONLINE

instead of losing a potential loyal customer as a result of pricing, learn to cross-sell which simply means you suggest that he/she buys additional products that complement the one being purchased just like the Igbos.

E.g if you are a Fashion vendor and a Potential Customer prices down a particular dress, you can simply say ” I have this beautiful shoe that will match this dress perfectly well, can I show you?

If the customer agrees to buy, do your calculations and cover up the shoe, and voila!  You just earned a potential loyal customer who will most likely refer their friends to you.

Igbo Men are Consistent

Even if he didn’t sell or make a sale the previous day, the Igbos would still wake up the next day and open his shop while making moves on how to make sales.

SELLING ONLINE

You complaining of poor sales but the last time you posted was two weeks ago…

In Conclusion

One thing you need to understand is that your page is like your shop so any day you don`t post, people will assume that you are not available for business.

Can you patronize an Online Vendor that posted two weeks ago?

Won`t you assume that such a vendor is not available at the moment?

Stop appearing and disappearing. Learn to be active online even when you are not making sales. Learn to be Consistent just like the Igbo Man.
